Critical Investigation
Artist Inspiration:
Frank Gehry Frank Gehry is an architectural designer who is known for abstract views in architecture. Most of his architecture contains a balance of smooth and curved lines, as well as sharp geometrical lines. His intentions are to create a magical and elegant view within his buildings to create an experience that replicates fantasy. Many of his buildings are seen all over the world, including places like Disney. As for his process, he works quickly with Lake Culture: The lake Itself is filled with thick grains of sand and shrubbery. But just a little way from Lake Michigan, we see it is surrounded by the heavy traffic of the city. There is a strong sense of community as people of different races and religious beliefs gather at one place to spend quality time with their families or walk their dogs. Businesses also run along the lake to attract people and gain money. |

Reflecting:
The architectural structures creates a relationship between the viewer, the lake, and the walls themselves. In constraining the viewer through walking through walls that are placed together, and then opening up, the viewer can take in the lake.
Through entering, the viewer experiences a sense of claustrophobia, going from openness and then to a closed in space. The person then is guided to an openness to experience the grandiose of the lake and should feel a sense of vast openness and bliss.

Critique:
Comparing my artwork to my artistic inspiration, we share the same formal qualities when it comes to line work. The walls within my piece are lines in which curve softly or are straight. This gives a sense of character to the site, as well as guides the viewer to specific areas for an experience. Frank Gehry used the buildings 3 dimensional quality to make the site visually appealing from all angles, ranging in height, width, and depth. He wanted to create a fun experience for viewers to have when visiting his sites. This is also a commonality between our purposes for creating our sites.
There much more differences between our pieces. Frank Gehry worked with contorting the shape of buildings. The buildings themselves were of more than 1 story tall. I worked with just walls to convey my message. The space in Frank Gehry's work is more closed off due to the fact he works with buildings, and my work is more open for the |
